Compact Disc Artwork Templates

As with all templates, place your artwork in the layer under the "base" layer mask. Do not worry about removing the base layer or masking the artwork, we will take care of that.

Optical Disc CD Face Design & Printing
Erawan interactive offers a compact disc printing and design service that has been utilized by multinational companies, advertising agencies, recording labels, artists and other design bureaus throughout the world.
Compact disc: On disc design considerations
Designing for on-disc printing is a specialized field, there are a number of issues that must be considered due to the rotation of the disc in the player and the printing process itself and the physical material characteristics of CDs, which differ over the printable surface of a disc and are obviously very different to those of paper.
There are therefore a number of restrictions and points to bear in mind when making designs for on-disc printing, and some artwork specifications that you must adhere to:
- Try to make artwork symmetrical if possible.
- We prefer native Illustrator/Freehand MX or generic .eps files, however, we also accept QuarkXpress, InDesign and Photoshop files, (we recommend Photoshop for CMYK or monotone/duotone artwork only). PLEASE CONTACT US FOR LATEST VERSION INFORMATION (Adobe Creative Suite CS2 now being used).
- Forward your art files and color proof to us via e-mail, our FTP site, DVD-R+-, CD-R, CD-RW, ZIP disk, or courier. (Proofs can be either digital files (PDFs are ideal for this purpose) or inkjet/laser prints.) Don't forget to embed or send fonts and linked graphics if needed.
- Compress files into one archive file (.zip or .sit).
- Macintosh users: Name your files with lower case file extensions referring to the application or file type (i.e. "disc_face.ai" - "photo_face.tif").
- Colour Tip: Only use Pantone Solid/Spot Coated Colors or CMYK colors. (We do not recommend trying to precisely color match CMYK CD and printed packaging artwork due to the different substrates).
On-disc printing options include:
- Silk screen printing on CD surface up to 6 colours (133 lpi max)
- Offset litho printing on CD surface at 175 lpi - the totally professional finish. Best suited to photographic pixel based images and subtle tone transitions.
- Pantone spot colours.
