In accordance with our own policies on Intellectual Property Rights, and the regulations and provisions of the Optical Disc Manufacturing Act of the Kingdom of Thailand and its revisions, full ownership of data to be replicated must be demonstrated and declared through an IPR declaration that forms part of any contract with Erawan. Each replication job needs to be cleared through the IPR ministry prior to inception.
Erawan does not engage or support the replication of data or digital/analogue assets without official proof ownership or legal rights (licensing) to diffuse such data. Our legal counsel will determine the legitimacy of all replication requests on a case by case basis in accordance with relevant legislation. Recent changes to legislation require that Erawan obtain permission for each replication job. Each customer is required to provide official documentation to us.
CD replication can be a daunting proposition. Here at Erawan, we strive to make it as straightforward as possible. We are happy to advise you on every step of the CD replicaitons process, from content creation, to disc design and packaging.
We are CD disc and packaging design specialists offering a comprehensive range of packaging options, coupled with some of the most innovative and unique designs available anywhere in Asia.
As in the print business, many people go with the lowest bid for their CD project, only to find their discs don't perform as they should due to unacceptable tolerances, (i.e. block error rates, birefringence, pit geometry, reflectivity, jitter, etc.). To maintain the production quality our client's expect, we continually evaluate our production process and make sure that each job is a bit-for-bit copy of the master. Our offset printing both on the CD face and for packaging far exceeds the usual low quality prints that other replication company's subcontract.
Should I burn (duplicate) my CDs or produce a master and replicate?
For most clients making a CD, it makes sense to submit your project for CD replication as opposed to duplication. Replication is the industry standard of producing CDs for commercial sale. The longevity and cost per unit advantages of replicated discs have made Ei stop its duplication activities for standard 650 MB CDs.
ERAWAN INTERACTIVE provided a CD-R (recordable CD) bulk mastering and duplication service since the first CD-R recorders came on the market. With the burning of CD-R and CD-RW becoming commonplace at offices and homes today, Ei has made a commitment to industrial standards of CD replication.
Today, Ei has moved on since these early days of CD duplication, and for us professional CD replication utilising glass masters is the only way to go. Replicated CDs offer considerable advantages over those "burned" by duplicators in CD rewriteable drives, and are economically viable at quantities as low as 500 units.
There are a few different types of CD to consider, depending on your application and amount of data. Whatever your route, CD on-disc designs & printing and cd packaging choices are critical to the quality of the end product and therefore the success of your project.
All Erawan customers must abide by our CD - DVD IPR/Terms & Conditions (download here - pdf 124k). Please print this, sign, date and send to us.
Standard CD (CD: 12cm dia; 650MB Capacity)
For distributing 500 or more CDs, traditionally pressed or replicated CD-ROMs (also known as "silver" CDs) offer the only real solution.
These factory molded replicated discs are the "real-deal" with none of the compatibility or longevity issues of duplicated recordable discs. Replicated discs are stamped from a glass master as per industry production standards. They will last many years, preserving and presenting valuable data.
CD Biz Card (CD: 8.5-8.9cm W x 5.8-6.4cm H; 30-60 MB Capacity)
CD business cards offer a novel and compact way to distribute information on a company's products, services, web content, video, portfolios etc. The CD-ROM is shaped like a business card and can be played just like ordinary CDs in the majority of tray based CD-ROM drives currently installed in personal computers. Comes in two capacities at slightly different sizes with PVC cover, or mini-jewel case as option.
Mini CD (mini CD - 8 cm dia; 200MB Capacity)
A smart looking mini CD, big enough to accommodate most corporate presentational assets in a very compact footprint. Comes with PVC cover as standard, mini-jewel case as an option.
The standard turnaround for CD replication is now 5-7 working days in Bangkok. Three days of this time is now dedicated to getting the IPR clearance from the appropriate government ministry. See sidebar for more on this.
For special on disc design and requested prototyping (check disc production) for overseas clients in particular, this timeframe is usually extended. Clients will be advised of production schedules.
Custom packaging may also extend this period at the plant. Shipping time is anything from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on method of shipping as specified by clients. All timings are estimates.
